
Who Are We?
We are an organization of cultural groups and individuals working towards a society that ensures and embraces a strong Canadian identity rooted in the multicultural nature of the population. Our society aims to provide all inhabitants with equality of opportunity and full participation in community life.
Our Objectives
This Council was established to preserve, maintain, and stimulate the creative expression of all cultures and folk art heritages by connecting people and fostering interaction within our communities.
What We Do
- Promote multiculturalism in the Leeds and Grenville Counties
- Foster intercultural understanding
- Assist newcomers and Canadians with multicultural issues
- Support groups and individuals in maintaining and developing their cultural heritage
- Provide workshops
Our primary activity is production of the annual Brockville Multicultural Festival. After a multi-year hiatus, the Festival is returning for its 39th Annual edition on May 9 & 10, 2025!
History
- Participated in Brockville’s Sesquicentennial Parade
- Sponsored workshops and international seminars
- Hosted Refugees Christmas Party
- Supported ethno-cultural events
- Set up information booths and international teas at Thousand Island Mall
- Visited seniors in nursing homes
- Welcomed new immigrants
- Organized poster contests
- Collaborated with folk arts groups and multicultural councils in other cities
- Sponsored Native Indian folk art and culture
- Worked under the guidance of the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture and the Department of the Secretary of State
- Hosted International Christmas at the Brockville Museum
- Worked with Pathfinder groups
- Acted as a reference agency on multicultural questions
